Questionable Content iconQuestionable Content by J. Jacques is the newest addition to my regular web comic reading list. It reminded me just a bit of Robot Stories, which I don't read regularly. Obviously the artwork is minimalist; it's the dialogue and exchange between characters that has me currently blasting through the archives.
Everything Jake - A long-running comic/short fiction story about friendship, love, humor, supernatural powers, and destiny I've been reading and enjoying at near fanatical levels, with a degree of enthralling realism I've never seen before or since
Scary Go Round - Very cool British humour
Buttercup Festival - Cool, very simply drawn, and on occasion showcases some beautiful artwork
Green Evening Stories - From the creator of Buttercup Festival, this is some better evidence of what this guy can do
Mac Hall - Geeks and gamers and hotties and college life, with gorgeous artwork. Very funny too; this is one of my favorites
Wigu - From the author of When I Grow Up comes Wigu, another series much more in the vein of print comic strips
Diesel Sweeties - Unique artwork here, on one of the first web comics I read; not for young or easily offended eyes
Sinfest - Religion, philosophy, a wannabe pimp who looks like Calvin, and hottie jail-bait, all with a slight anime look
Pixel Pals - If you loved original Nintendo games, you'll love this; all artwork is borrowed
Boy On A Stick And Slither - Simple, yet slightly political
Death To The Extremist - Very surreal and completely abstract
Pokey The Penguin - Surreal, looks like it was drawn solely with Paint, VERY seldom updated but well done when it is

Internet Culture

Must-see web sites that showcase some of the unique things the Internet has to offer. If you've been surfing the web for a while, you've probably seen most of them, but if you're new to the web, this is an interesting sample of the culture that's emerged out of the World Wide Web.

Disco Squirrels iconDisco Squirrels is a one-joke web site I dug out of my folder of old links. Simple yet effective. I want ya. I need ya.
weebls stuff - This guy spends a lot of time making cool Shockwave Flash movies using cartoon drawings. View the badger clip and chant about badgers for several days straight.
Free Will Astrology - Even if you have no respect for astrology, this site has a lot of great words and unconventional wisdom for anyone seeking spiritual growth and strengthening
rathergood.com - Excellent site with musical Flash movies that are--say it with me now--unique and surreal
The Onion - The latest in news headlines that other lesser (read: reputable) publications may omit
Quote Database - Chock full of people saying really funny things in Internet chat rooms
Etiquette Grrls - They're funnier than Miss Manners, and capitalize Random Words--What more do you Need to Be Told?
b3ta.com - Lots of Photoshopped pictures here
Wil Wheaton's blog - Good reading, very personal and human, from the former Star Trek child star
The Infamous Exploding Whale - Apparently a few years back, the government of the state of Oregon found a beached whale in Florence, OR and decided to put enough dynamite in it to blow it into oblivion. I don't know why they did this, unless a neighboring town had a shortage of blubber that year, but I do know that any web page entitled "The Infamous Exploding Whale" sure deserves a link here. You can also read about Dave Barry's obsession with exploding animals.

My Way iconMy Way: I found this site thanks to Drudge Report, as many of his links go here. It's very simple and clean and compiles news from many sources. One of the coolest things I've found is how it has AP news specifically from Congress, the Supreme Court, and others, most of which you won't find reported anywhere else but is still very interesting and important stuff for those of us who want to cast informed votes in three months.
Terrorism: Questions & Answers - Interesting, informative, and unbiased analysis and summary of terrorism conditions around the world, including a new featured question every week or so on a current terrorism event
BBC News - One of my main sources for news on the world, as well as the United States, beating many domestic sites for national coverage
CNN International Edition - I still check here from time to time for US-specific news
Drudge Report - A more well-rounded but slightly sleazy news site portal
LEO - The online version of a local alternative weekly newspaper; I read the print version often at lunch
Snitch - Another local alternative weekly newspaper, primarily but not exclusively dealing with crime news
Slashdot - A geek news site
The Courier-Journal - The largest mainstream local newspaper's online version, my main source for local news

Wikipedia iconWikipedia: The only online encyclopedia you'll ever need. Want to know what something is? When an author was born? When Nelson Mandela was president of South Africa? You can Google it and sift through dozens of worthless results, or go to Wikipedia and get the facts on almost anything you can imagine.
Dictionary.com - An online dictionary, of course; like Wikipedia, this site is most useful as a Firefox quick search
World Factbook - This site is incredible. It has information on every US-recognized country on the planet--on each one's government, people, geography, background, and so on.
HRW World Atlas - A more geography-oriented guide to all the countries
Babel Fish Translation - Translates text and web pages from/to English and a dozen other languages--hours of Engrish fun!

Take Back The WebMozilla Firefox (formerly known as Firebird, formerly known as Phoenix) is my favorite browser. Tabbed browsing has come in very handy, and I find myself trying to middle-click to open tabs in other programs. Ad blocking, and extensions such as the digit flipper are indispensable--things I've wished IE could do for years. Toby strongly suggested that I check it out, and has helped me fine-tune it since, and now I'm pretty pleased with it, annoyances notwithstanding. I still keep IE around in case of emergency.
ASP.NET - By far the best web programming technology I've ever seen or used
VS.NET - This is the program I'm typing in right now to make this web page. It's an excellent text editor, and at work, an excellent development environment
Mozilla Firefox - My favorite browser, though I still keep IE around in case of emergency or Microsoft-run site
Windows Server 2003 - My web site is served from this operating system
IIS - This is the software that serves my web site
Nucleus - My blogging software--thanks Toby!
PHP - The programming technology (analogous to ASP.NET) that serves my blog
MySQL - The database that stores my blog's data
directNIC - I registered my domain name, pejo.us, through them for only $15/year
Webhost4life - My pejo.us host
ASP Alliance - As a columnist, I get web space to do whatever I want, including hosting photo albums
XHTML - The markup language used to format my web pages
CSS - All styles are implemented via this powerful and very easy to use technology
XML - This powers my photo albums, because I was squeamish about using a database for it
